Headstand
Handmade Original, Clay, White Glaze
This decorative vase was any early work in sculpture. A shift in my understanding of human form occurred here as I turned her upside down to carefully form the features—”they’re just shapes!” This freed me from fear of mistakes and broadened the field of availability in creating a nose or an ear. It can be so many ways—a discovery that has translated to 2D portraiture painting as well.
*All ceramics made with gratitude for, in honor of my sweet, so talented, Grandma Peggy.
